Why, Some of My Best Friends Are Monkeys Black

I'm sure you probably heard by now, but a California Republican (and reportedly Tea Party activist), Marilyn Davenport is being slammed for emailing this photo of Obama to fellow travelers with the heading, "Now you know why no birth certificate."

Members of her own party in her own state found this image so offensive, they've been calling on Davenport to resign from her state party's central committee.

"It's just highly inappropriate, it's a despicable message, it drips with racism and I think she should step down from the committee," [chairman of the Orange County (Calif.) Republican Party, Scott] Baugh said. "It undermines everything we are doing to reach out to ethnic communities."

Now, this is exactly the kind of drivel that will cause all kinds of shock and blah all over the blogosphere. Before it properly kicks off, I, for one, want to state for the record that I am not shocked in the least bit by any of it.

Not shocked at the image. These fools have been posting pictures of Obama as Curious George, a witch doctor, a "lyin' African." There has been Obama shining Palin's shoes and Obama's "welfare bucks." And how about that one with Obama and a noose talking about "the solution"? Why not this lovely "family portrait" of the Obamas? It's only the latest in the series.

I'm not at all outraged that this Republican Party chairman is all outraged!!! Republicans are gonna have a hard enough time running against this man without charges of racism hanging over their heads (like a noose?). It's bad enough a lot of folks will probably be thinking it anyway. This will only be yet another reminder.

I'm not shocked that Baugh asked her to resign.

I'm not shocked that Davenport is refusing to resign.

Not shocked that one of her defenses is an actual claim of innocence:

"In no way did I even consider the fact he's half-black when I sent out the email. In fact, the thought never entered my mind until one or two other people tried to make this about race."

Or that the other one was the always tried-and-true:

"I have friends who are black."

Truth of the matter is, I won't even be raising an eyebrow when ...

--Black folks are charged with being "overly sensitive";

--Those same black folks are charged with being "racists" for finding the above picture racist;

--Marilyn Davenport becomes the FOX News poster child of "White Victimhood," claiming to have received "death threats," and the like;

--Marilyn Davenport becomes a Tea Party darling and goes on a national speaking tour;

--Elizabeth Hasselbeck plays her in the made-for-TV movie;

--Marilyn Davenport pens the best-selling book, Monkey Business: How the Obama Family Invented the AIDS Virus with Foreword by Juan Williams

  1. I think I saw a review of this book, by Haley Barbour.

  2. Nope, not surprising at all. Racists believe that they as individuals are better than any individual member of the group they hate. Imagine how the poor dears feel right now with a black man in the position of highest authority in America. They just can't contain the rage and anger in their pitiful little hearts and it comes out loud and clear. The good thing is, we know who they are now. We can see them lined up at all the tea bagger conventions and gatherings.
